i think this is a good idea, but could be changed just a little bit

how about: friends list/accept friend onto list

and when that is implimented, use that to block trial accounts from whisper (they can only whisper some1 who has accepted them as a friend.)

full accounts can use all features, trail can only whisper friends after accept.

and give them a higher spam filter (we get i think about 10 secs or so per 3 messages) give them 10 secs per 1 message. that will solve all talk/trade chat

i dont agree that they should be banned from using game features (cause some people who use trail ACTUALLY WANT TO PLAY AND MEET THE COMMUNITY) because that would turn away alot of new interest to the game, which could actually inturn kill guildwars...

alot of people base buying a game on a free trial... and if the free trial means u cant talk to anyone to learn how to play... alot of angry people

/signed for no whispers for trial accounts.

Its not just when your in the district either, im convinced they are writing the names down and using them with different trial accounts, I get whispers when they arent even in the same district now. (

Now since it would be harsh, and probably too much work for Anet-fu-gw-gw2-ftw's team to change this back, why not simply just disallow trial accounts from using local chat, trade chat or whisper.

Here are the reasons, and why it would work.

1) It would stop gold-sellers, which typically seem to be asian-based, from using Local Chat, Whisper or Trade Chat for selling their gold
2) It would NOT affect the play for people using trial accounts to see if they want to play GW. They can still access the game, and try out the missions and quests. Being able to interact with the GW players is not something that will affect their trial time. Infact hell, it might even convince them that the £15 GW:Proph costs is actually worth it.

Anyhoo, just a note from someone who is sick of gold sellers, and in particular, how little seems to be getting done about them.

I mean how does anyone whisper me before I've finished loading, on a PC with 2GB of memory. Come ON

I believe a similar system is in place in WoW, and it works quite well. No whispers...they have to manually invite you into a group to advertise, and I for one don't usually accept invites from "Ssdf Osdfnsg"

Edit: Or re-introduce Pablo's old crash bug for people to send to bots for when they just won't take the hint, crashing their client.
TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY AGREE! Trial accounts don't need to do this stuff.

I especially hate the PM bots. Like, I can turn off local chat and trade chat... But what am I supposed to do, set myself to offline or DND? I like PM's. I talk to my friends. I'd rather not get spam pm's from bots.

the idea itself is good, but clearly you didnt think enough when you suggested it, so many newcomers who'd just like to test the game will be the victim of this so /notsigned

/Signed for the 'Whisper only from friends/guildies' option and an added request for a bigger friends list.

The Gold bot whispers are driving me batty today. Im in Kamadan, Europe, District 1 and within 15mins Ive had 8 whispers for the same site from 3 different nonsense names, none of whom are actually in the same district as me so /report wont work - it needs to be screenshot and reported manually only for 2 mins later a brand new name to start it.

It started a while back when I went to GtoB Europe District 1 to trade in my Balthazar Faction for some Zaishen Keys. Got my first whisper when I loaded in there and since then it has been none stop everyday the second I log on.
I think that they are just taking names down and spamming them with every new account they get.

The friend whisper does offer a better compromise than preventing trial accounts from whispering. I don't like the idea of limiting those who are innocent (geniune new folk trying the game) as well as the less than savory (bets etc).
The downside to this is that random folks wouldnt be able to whisper me. I've met some lovely players and good friends through player to player trade, randomly answering requests for help and what not.
I guess its a matter of balancing the good - IE not being harassed constantly with mindless spam, VS the bad - IE not being able to whisper people about trade items they have, offering help via whisper etc.

Do something to prevent botting/gold farming? Anet would never do such a thing!

first off, we have conflicting reports. can trial accounts even send whispers? some people in this thread say yes, some say no. does anyone actually know for sure?

anyway, if trial accounts can whisper, the "only accept whispers from trial accounts if they are on my friends list" is a PERFECTLY VIABLE option. WoW had to implement that restriction to help combat goldsellers about 9 months ago or whatever and it's worked great. if your trial account friend wants to play with you, simply call them on the phone, talk to them via your instant messenger, whatever, and get their name. then add them to your friends list. it's not hard....

the 'spotter bot' thing, if it really is in use (one account spots names, another "full" account actually sends the whispers), Anet needs to implement some method so you can report whispers and not just people in your district.

I love this idea.

I've never seen the need to talk to anyone in local chat, anyone who talks in local chat in outposts is basically retarded anyway. The only thing I use local chat for is giving out vent info.
